AAPSU oppose NSUI recruitment drive

Itanagar, Nov 22: Ahead of AICC general secretary, Rahul Gandhi’s much awaited trip tomorrow, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union(AAPSU) has staunchly opposed the NSUIs recruitment drive.

The AAPSU president Takam Tatung today said that NSUIs drive to “lure away students to join its fold would be opposed  tooth and nail”. Tatung though clarified that AAPSU do not oppose Rahuls trip but if it is intended to recruit students to NSUI camp, AAPSU will never allow it to happen.

We have nothing against Rahul Gandhi though as a patriotic Indian and Arunachalee we feel that Rahul instead of  maintaining muted silence over Chinese claim over Arunachal Pradesh should have stood beside us, the union said.

Where was NSUI when AAPSU staged protest in front of Chinese Embassy at New Delhi in protest against China’s claim over Arunachal Pradesh?, he asked.

He further alleged that every time North eastern girls are molested at New Delhi or a boy is ragged at university campus, NSUI never bothered to come in support of students of North east.

It said that NSUI despite winning election with active support from North East students have never extended its hand when students from the region are in need.

Why writing for media is still charming

Gyati Kacho

BOMDILA, Nov 22: It has been quite sometime since I left journalism having qualified in the last state civil services examination. I decided to join the same as advised by most friends and relatives.

While recollecting my media stints at Delhi and Arunachal Pradesh, it however seems my penchant and passion for journalism is still alive and kicking just as tea continue to intoxicate its drinkers. Perhaps the hangover of hard journalism lessons learnt at The Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi which chaffed me out as one amongst 100 serious journalists from the over 8,000 aspiring journalists of the country in 1999, could be an underlying factor.

Leaving aside the story of my associations with media at the national capital, when I look back and recollect some of my significant news coverages of my home state that contributed directly or indirectly towards the cause of happiness and success to my fellow brothers, three news reportings are dear to my heart.

The first news coverage was on Tapi Mra, the first Everester of our state. The innocent but enthusiastic climber had met me at Arunachal Bhawan, New Delhi during 2005 after his conquest of K2 peak in Nepal. He had a fiery ambition to conquest Mt. Everest but was penniless and directionless having exhausted his meager funds at Nepal. Besides breaking his achievement story in national and local dailies, I was instrumental in getting him contacted to the then Lok Sabha MP Kiren Rijiju and Papum Pare MLA Kipa Babu, who helped him in his further endeavors to conquest the highest peak of the world. Later, state Governor J.J Singh did the honours to felicitate him upon achievement of his coveted goal.

The second social effect was when my writing and legal advice to a contractor whom I would not like to name here, helped him win a multi-crore tender package. The gentleman had been generous enough to ask me if I wanted a piece of his contract, which I politely refused.

The third and the most recent news coverage that has brought smiles to my face is titled ‘Good Deeds Never Go Unrewarded’ as published in 17th edition of this month’s Arunachal Front newspaper which reported rewarding of bravehearts Ipi Basar and Tashi Khandu by the state chief minister during the National Press Day Celebration. The firing incident at Itanagar bound Night Super Bus from Bomdila at Bhalukphong, wherein the brave driver Tashi Khandu managed to maneuver the bullet punctured bus and drive the 30 passengers to safety despite the shower of bullets by waiting terrorists had been reported by me.

On other side of the coin, the sad part of my stint in journalism was the short teaching experience at Mass Communication Department of the Rajiv Gandhi University where I had taught as a guest faculty member for two years during 2005-06. Besides the paltry remuneration paid by the University, I found enthusiasm and passion lacking among the aspiring journalism students. But of late I am getting to hear that bright students are joining the stream which is good news for Arunachal media.

For democracy to thrive in any nation, it is pertinent that media play its vocal, vibrant and proactive role as its fourth pillar. Empowerment of media and freedom of expression is the key to that. For that to happen in Arunachal Pradesh, it is not only duty of the state Govt. to play its role as the benefactor, but people as a whole has to be sympathetic and supportive to the cause of media. Investments by like minded individuals/businessmen in media related industries as in other parts of the country, better working conditions, pay packages and social security to journalists could be some of the solutions in strengthening Arunachal media and make it run from its present limping position.

Who will check the rising prices of essential commodities?

Dear Editor,

It has been noticed that the prices of all the vegetable commodities have  been continuously rising up for last several months.

I went to Akashdeep market area to buy vegetable items on Nov 19 but was left astonished after knowing the prices of various vegetables commodities. Potato price has risen up from last week’s Rs. 20 Per Kg to Rs. 30 Per Kg now. I remembered that in gone days even the potato price was fixed at Rs. 5 Per Kg. When I enquired about other items, I found that tomatoes were sold at Rs. 60 Per Kg. and prices of other commodities were almost same as that of tomato.

Not only the prices of vegetable commodities have been risen up but the prices of Meat (Chicken, Mutton, Fish etc.) have also been in rising position. Besides that even the prices of other commodities like costumes have been charged exorbitantly in various Shopping Complex. One page of Xerox Copy is also even charged Rs. 3 which is too high for a student.

We know that there are various factors such as unavailability of indigenous factory, no proper communication, but the shopkeepers should think about their valuable consumers. Common people don't say that they should sell their commodities in loss way. However the consumers’ satisfaction should also be taken care.

I request the authorities concerned and various consumers awareness organizations take various measures to curtail the price rise so that the burden on students and common people could be reduced.

Yours,

Tasi Darang

RWD Colony, Itanagar

Mra’s achievement not honoured

Dear Editor,

The exemplary gentleman’s story and his simplistic manner in which he addressed the youth crowd at Cadence -2009 festival, RGU was overwhelmingly encouraging. He narrated his capricious journey to become the first man from Arunachal to scale the mighty Mt Everest, which he informed, was vacillating at frequent point of time.

The crowd who came to witness the cultural event had the rare chance to see Tapi Mra in complete mountaineering costume along the crampons, which he donated to the State Museum.

Mra’s determination and perseverance has undoubtedly made all of us proud despite the fact that his achievement is not satisfyingly acknowledged by the Government.

It is heartbreaking that Tapi Mra’s triumph is just a dubious excitement and no real honour is awarded to this bonafide conqueror. Despite his daring accomplishment outside Arunachal he still has to face beginner’s obstacle in his own state.

It is an appeal from our society that Tapi Mra’s achievement be honoured wholeheartedly and adventure sports like trekking, rock climbing, mountaineering, aero sports be encouraged.
